Governor Rell is proposing shutting down the New Canaan train line (& Danbury line) in order to save $5 million. Is she nuts?

This branch line is vital for New Canaan. Without it, property values would suffer as people would find the NYC commute very difficult & potential new residents would seek other "more accessible" communities. Without stable/rising property values, local tax revenue would decline and this would hurt New Canaan schools & government services (i.e. road repair and police protection).
While this proposal is probably just a negotiating tactic in order to focus voter attention on the state's budgetary problems, I would suggest contacting your local legislators & protest this very short-sighted proposal.
